Taking the Course - Prerequisites
Eligibility:
  • The applicant must be eligible under State of Texas law. Please click here for details.
  • Deposit/Reservation:
  • Please contact us via e-mail or via phone (325.698.4224) to reserve a seat in our class.
  • Shooting Knowledge:
  • The applicant must be knowledgeable in the proper shooting and operation of a firearm.
  • We are not permitted to instruct the applicant on the proper operation and firing of a firearm.
  • We do offer beginner-level shooting classes. Please e-mail or contact us via phone (325.698.4224) for details.

  • Receiving a CHL - Prerequisites
    Eligibility:
  • The applicant must be eligible under State of Texas law. Please click here for details.
  • Age Requirements:
  • The minimum age for a civilian to apply for a concealed handgun license is 21.
  • Applying via The State of Texas:
  • There are one of two ways to submit your license application (and these are also prerequisites to your fingerprint appointment).
  • Apply online for a new license. Click here for the DPS website.
  • Apply online for a license renewal. Click here for the DPS website.
  • If applying by mail, AIGR will supply all the required documents.
  • State Licensing Fee:
  • The state licensing fee must be paid at the time you submit your license application. ($140)
  • The state will only accept credit cards when submitting online. The state will accept personal checks, money orders, or cashier's checks when applying by mail.
  • Fingerprints:
  • The applicant must submit the license application and pay the state fee before being eligible to book a fingerprint appointment.
  • Effective March 1, 2011: Instructors or law enforcement are no longer allowed to take CHL fingerprints.
  • The State of Texas has contracted with L1 Solutions to handle all fingerprints.

  • Passport Photos:
  • Passport photos are no longer required for Texas residents. The DPS will use your existing driver's license photo for the CHL license. Applicants that are not Texas residents are still required to have passport photos.
  • Concealed Handgun License Form:
  • The CHL 100 Form is the document certifying that you've successfully passed the course. This document must be sent with your final application to the DPS.
